At the 1st Cumbernauld BB Company’s annual display on Thursday 15th May four young men were presented with their President’s Badges and three with their Queen’s Badges – the highest award in the Boys’ Brigade. President’s Badges were awarded to Euan McLeod, Russell O’Brien, Kade Sommerville and Andrew Watson, while our new Queen’s Men are Greig Bradley, Ryan Conway and Andrew Irvine. Every one of these young men are a credit to our Company, their families and themselves. Well done and congratulations from all at Cumbernauld Old.

Christian Aid Week - Sunday 11 to Saturday 18 May #caweek
As we’ve done in previous years Cumbernauld Old Parish Church is supporting Christian Aid Week in 2014.
As far as we know, there are now two ‘official’ Food Banks in Cumbernauld. At its recent meeting the Kirk Session at Cumbernauld Old agreed that we should encourage the congregation to help our local community by contributing to these banks, run by the Salvation Army and Cornerstone Christian Fellowship. Most of the goods needed are tinned items (e.g. mince, ravioli, stew, peas, beans, etc.) and…
This is the title of the new Cumbernauld Old Parish Church Cookbook which is a selection of favourite recipes suggested by members of the congregation including starters, mains and, of course, plenty of sweets!
It’s another great fund-raising idea for…
Our Ramblers walk today started and finished at the Watersports Centre at Strathclyde Park, went along part of the River Clyde Walkway and then through Baron’s Haugh and Dalzell Estate, near Motherwell.
Twelfth Night - last picture of the Christmas Tree for this festive season. The tree and decorations will soon be put away for another year and the cards consigned to the recycling bin. See you again next Christmas!
Andy Murray has become the first British Wimbledon Men’s Singles champion for 77 years and perhaps will become the first Sir Andrew Murray since 1338.
That Sir Andrew fought against Edward III at Bothwell and St Andrews (among other places), while his father - also Sir Andrew Murray (d.1297) - escaped from an English prison to rally the Scots at Urquhart Caste and Avoch (in the Black Isle) to link up with William Wallace to fight against Edward I at Stirling Bridge. [Collins Encyclopaedia of Scotland, ed John Keay & Julia Keay, 1994]
Like his distinguished namesakes, our Andy is a bit of a fighter too, but, thankfully, his only weapon is a tennis racquet. Still, he has made history and he has also made a nation proud. Well done, that man!
Watching the 10-o'clock news and the incredible scenes from Egypt, where the army has taken over power from the democratically-elected president.
Couldn’t happen here, of course: the UK Tories are making our military personnel redundant and there won’t be enough of them left to take part in a revolution.
